When Color Guard and Band combine to perform a marching show, the combined group is called the Edison HS Pageantry Corps.
Pep Band is the musical group that typically performs at away football games. Pep Band consists of upper-class students and sometime freshmen band students.
Winterguard is the Color Guard unit that performs and competes in the winter and spring seasons.
The HBUHSD District Honor Band is a performing group comprised of students from every high school in the Huntington Beach Union High School District. Auditions are required and are held early in the year, and a concert is typically scheduled in February. All students are encouraged to audition; this is an opportunity for them to perform with a distinguished guest Conductor and the best student musicians in the district. Students who have participated have had a very positive experience.
This is a major football game between rivals Edison HS and Fountain Valley HS. The Edison HS Pageantry Corps may perform at the Bell Game even if it is an away game for Edison HS. Otherwise the pep band will attend the game.
The “band box” is a locking white mailbox in the band room (300) just outside of the equipment room that is used to turn in paperwork for registration and fundraisers. The band box is operated by the booster board. Items that are intended for the band director should be delivered to the band director’s office.
Here are some terms you may hear used by the students, coaches and director from time to time:

Call time: time students need to arrive at a location ready to perform or warm up

Loadout: the process of loading equipment on the truck for a performance

Drumline: the percussion section of a marching unit

Battery: the drums in a drumline that march

Pit, front ensemble: the stationary percussion instruments

Winds: instruments that need you to blow in to form a musical note

Sectional (rehearsal): a rehearsal for a particular section of band

Dot book: a small notebook used to document one’s movements in a marching performance

Silks: flags used by Color Guard

SCJA: Southern California Judging Association

WGASC: Winterguard Association of Southern California

MBOS: WGASC’s Marching Band Open Series
